Supporting High-Impact Math Learning
Iowa AEAs provide targeted math support designed to help every student build stronger math understanding and achievement. Our focus is on strengthening core instruction, improving student outcomes and supporting schools in creating effective systems of support for all learners. Our consultants partner with schools to:
- Strengthen core instruction through coaching and consultation grounded in evidence-based practices.
- Support professional learning in key instructional areas such as the 8 Effective Mathematical Practices, Numeracy Project, and Making Sense of Mathematics and Teaching.
- Help schools apply the Iowa Academic Standards for Mathematics, ensuring a guaranteed and viable curriculum through work with priority standards, learning progressions, and the selection and use of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).
- Build number sense and math fluency – helping students develop both procedural skills and deep conceptual understanding.
Systems of Support
AEAs help schools design and strengthen their Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for math – ensuring every student gets what they need to grow and succeed. This includes:
- Organizing support across universal (Tier 1), supplemental (Tier 2), and intensive (Tier 3) instruction.
- Using data and assessments to guide decisions and track progress through tools such as FastBridge and Panorama Student Success.
- Ensuring accessibility, accommodations, and acceleration for diverse learners – including English learners, gifted and talented students, students at risk, and students with IEPs.
Our Goal
We’re committed to helping schools build strong learning communities where educators work together to study student growth, improve instruction and achieve meaningful results in mathematics.
